After completing a Doctor of Dental Surgery/ Doctor of Dental Medicine Program, a dentist can specialize in any of the areas below:

Dental Anesthesiology:  Dental anesthesiology focuses on managing pain, anxiety, and overall patient health during dental surgical procedures. Residency: 3-4 years

Dental Public Health: Dental public health involves preventing and controlling oral health diseases and promoting dental health. Residency: 3 years


Endodontics: Endodontics focuses on the morphology and pathology of the dental pulp and tissues. Residency: 3 Years

Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology: Oral pathology deals with identification and management of diseases affecting the oral cavity. Residency 3-5 years

Oral Radiology: Oral radiology focuses on the interpretation of images and data that can be used for the diagnosis and management of diseases in the oral cavity. Residency: 3 years

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery: Oral and maxillofacial surgery involves the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries of the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region. Residency : 4-6 years

Oral Medicine: Oral Medicine focuses on the oral health care of medically compromised patients and the diagnosis and management of medically-related diseases, disorders and conditions affecting the oral and maxillofacial region. Residency: 2-4 years

Orofacial Pain: Orofacial Pain is the specialty of dentistry that focuses on the diagnosis, management and treatment of pain disorders of the jaw, mouth, face, head and neck. Residency: 3 years


Orthodontics: Orthodontics includes the diagnosis, prevention, and correction of malocclusion and skeletal abnormalities of the developing and mature facial structures. Residency: 3 years

Pediatric Dentistry: Pediatric Dentistry provides both primary and comprehensive preventive for infants and children through adolescence, including special health care needs. Residency: 2 years

Periodontics: Periodontics focuses on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the supporting and surrounding tissue structures of the teeth. Residency: 2 years


Prosthodontics: Prosthodontics involves the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance of health of patients with clinical conditions associated with missing or deficient teeth. Residency: 3 years
